A Homegrown Love Story

As a Virginia family photographer, I was so excited to take this sweet girls birthday photos! Happy birthday Dylan! This sweet little miss is officially 1! 

Guys, it seems like just yesterday I was taking Dylan’s newborn photos —I mean, I guess I did just blog that session last week haha—but somehow a whole year has flown by and she’s grown so much!

This little gal is so adorable…Dylan loves making the cutest little nose scrunch and sticking out her tongue. The grass was so fascinating to her and she totally wanted my camera! Haha Surprisingly Dylan could’ve cared less about the 1 balloon but it still was such a sweet addition to her photos. She adores her mom and dad so much and they are just crazy over her!

Also, can we quickly talk about how much I love their outfits?! Carly does a great job of coordinating colors and patterns with their clothing. She’s a fan of neutrals and I think they looked amazing against the beautiful greens of the trees and field and mountains of southwest Virginia! So if you are wondering about planning colors for family photos, don’t be afraid to go neutral! 

So before I share these family photos captured in the beautiful Virginia fields, let’s have a little story time. 

Carly loves wearing hats. It’s her thing and she rocks them! So last year we recreated one of her favorite photos from their engagement session—to be honest, thanks to pregnancy brain I can’t remember if it was unintentional or not but now it is a thing and we will intentionally recreate it from here on out. We even went back to the same place we did maternity photos so it just made it so special!

I can’t even tell you how much I love that. I love that I get to photograph people over the years, that they feel like friends, that they keep trusting me over and over, and that we get to recreate images of the changing seasons of their family. This job isn’t one I take lightly
